Covered Button Earrings Tutorial

If you are looking for the {giveaway}, go here.

I'm late. Again.

I was asked a few months back if I could create a tutorial for making covered button earrings and I am just getting around to it. Shame on me. I know.

So here it is!

Materials:

Covered Button kit (purchased at JoAnn)
scissors
scrap fabric
needle-nosed pliers
E-6000 glue
earring posts (not pictured. Purchased at Hobby Lobby)

You can either eyeball the circle size (like I do) or cut out the template on the back of the covered button kit. Use this as a template to cut two circles from your scrap fabric. I am using Lizzy House Jewels in orange.

Once you have your circles cut, lay your kit pieces and fabric like so. Your fabric should be right side down.

Press button top down into the button tool allowing fabric to wrap around it. Use your finger to press all edges of fabric into the back of the button top.

Locate the button back (pictured on the left side) and place it on top of the button tool with the button top and fabric still inside. Make sure the loop is directed up. Use the pusher tool to press the back piece into the button top.

Use the needle-nosed pliers to press down the loop on the back of the button.

Repeat all steps for the second button. Your buttons should look like this.

Squeeze glue into the button backs. Be careful not to overfill or you will end up with glue seeping through the cracks. Place earring post onto the button. Allow to dry for 24 hours, as directed on the glue tube.

And that's it! Fairly painless, right?

These are a few other pairs I've made. I wear them all the time and LOVE them! This orange pair is part of the haul for my follower {giveaway} going on right now! If you want to enter, go here.

If you like these earrings but have no desire to make your own pair, I highly recommend you purchase a pair or two from Lindsay Sews. Hers are MUCH more professional looking than mine are and the money she makes on each purchase goes toward a wonderful cause: the adoption of a child by her and her husband. You can read about her story and her fundraiser here.
